Such a fun, busy, busy summer! Our journey towards Japan begins today!!!
We fly to Seattle this afternoon and get to spend a few days there, seeing the sights, spending time with my best friend from high school and Audrey's Godmother, Kelli and enjoying the luxury of breaking up the long trip a bit!
Thursday we are to be at the airport at 1:30 in the morning for a 4:30 departure. We fly to an Air Force base, south of Tokyo, called Yakota. We don't have a printed itinerary and (for real) we think the flight is either 10 hours long and we get in at 12:30 a.m. (Friday) or it's 16 hours long and we get in at 6:00 a.m. on Friday. Pesky details that I guess don't matter. (Read....trying to let this go.)
We will stay at Yakota Friday and then Saturday we get on the Shinkansen and travel about 5 hours to our new home, Iwakuni.
Mick's Deputy, the fabulous Rob Plagmann, will pick up our crew and take us to the Temporary Lodging Facility, which will be our home until we get a home.
And speaking of our home, on Monday morning, we'll go to the Housing Office and get on the waiting list for a house. We heard a rumor that there will be a few townhomes available at the end of the month, but we don't know where we'll be on the waiting list. It goes according to your checkout date at your previous assignment, so we have a pretty good chance. If it's going to be longer than a month or so, then we'll look for a place out in town. However, I have read on Facebook that the places are a bit scarce right now.
Quite an adventure!!! :) Wish us luck....GOOD luck that is!!!! :)
Talk to you from the other side of the world!

Thinking of you!!!! I'm excited for your new adventure. You all will love it and adjust in no time, I am sure. You have done a great job organizing the trip :)
You're in Seattle and I'm already wistful thinking about you all so far away. We'll just have to make a pledge to get over there, even if it's for a long (very long) weekend! xoxo
